As a national network, we strive to stay connected to the local work that ensures Black lives matter at school. Our committees are one way to uplift regional lessons, activities, policies, or organizations. This will ensure best practices can be shared across all nine regions and the national work aligns with the needs of communities.
"People have got to get together and work together."
~Fannie Lou Hamer
This work requires individuals from various backgrounds willing to take on different roles. We want you to show up authentically in ways that align with how you want to be in community impacting change. With this in mind, we have reframed our committees to align with the social change ecosystem map. Below are some of the ways we will be demonstrating that Black Lives Matter at School.
Weavers Committee
For those who desire to assist us with sustaining joyful communities alongside partners in the work. Want to connect students, ideas, and people to the movement. This school year will be focused on International People's with Disabilities Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Asian American Heritage Month.
Builders Committee
You want to take part in our collective vision to develop and organize resources for educators doing the work in and outside of school. If you hope to cultivate greater awareness, set up coalitions, and take action. This school year will be focusing on stages of change, diverse policies, and self-reflection.
Storytellers Committee
Are you hoping to share information, experiences, and possibilities? Take part in showing the impact, uplifting voices across the country, and connecting to realities faced across the globe. This school year will be focusing on Black joy, the history of Black resistance, and youth's narratives.
