We are seeing an increase in book bans in Virginia and across the country. It is essential to counter those voices by uniting to support the freedom to read. Books are tools for understanding complex issues and experiences.
The outdoor event will be comprised of storytellers and an opportunity to browse and swap your favorite banned books. You will hear directly from teachers, young scholars, and education leaders about why the freedom to learn and teach the truth is vital to them. You will also learn about other things you can do to join the movement to unite against censorship in education. We hope you will join us! If you plan to attend, please register below by June 5th, so we have enough resources for attendees.
Everybody is invited to participate in the book swap. Just make sure to RSVP with the button below and to come with a book to trade. Come with a book, leave with a (different) book.
This Teach Truth Day of Action is co-coordinated by representatives of Black Lives Matter at School, the Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association. It is one of many Teach Truth Day of Action events being held across the United States at historic sites.
